{GAMES} Love Chronicles: The Spell

A young prince has been having the same dream and is summoned far from his home. Help him remove an evil curse that has caused a whole kingdom to be trapped in their dreams! Save a beautiful princess before it’s too late in this fun and exciting Hidden Object Adventure game. Dive into the world of Love Chronicles – The Spell, and defeat the evil witch that has cursed the entire population once and for all!

Love Chronicles The Spell

Before I talk about the game, I wanna tell something. I already played this game two years ago. I thought I already posted the review about it, but apparently it’s not. I totally forgot to wrote the draft and I couldn’t find it on my folder. So I decide to make new one.

On topic of game, the graphic and the gameplay was reminded me with Magic Encyclopedia. Not something bad, but it screams unoriginal to me. Maybe because I’m not really used with illustrated-realism graphic style. So far I only encounter this style on Magic Encyclopedia and Love Chronicles: The Spell.

The storyline kinda weird, unusual to me. I thought the prince will be the true love of princess, but apparently he was there to unite princess with her lover. And judging from ending, the prince’s adventure still continue, assuming he will encounter similar quest.

The animation was fine, although I hope they add some voice over. I still can’t shake the feeling how similar Love Chronicles: The Spell with Magic Encyclopedia. I enjoy the game, but I wish Vendel Games done more better than this.

But since I’m on my way completing Love Chronicles: The Sword and The Rose, I will give applause to Vendel Games for their hardwork and wish the next game become better and better.

{GAMES} Danse Macabre: Crimson Cabaret

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, the world-famous artist, has come to you for help! Who murdered his friend Sophie, the leading lady of La Parisienne cabaret? It’s time to gather up the suspects. Was it the clumsy stagehand? Or maybe it was the jealous Baron… Explore the city of Paris as you gather and examine evidence that will point you to the true killer. But watch your step – a masked figure is watching you from around every corner!

The original title was Danse Macabre: Moulin Rouge

Another murder mystery game from one of my favorite developer. This theme is the most popular in HOPA genre, so it’s up to developer to mixed the formula and shaped their creativity in order to keep the player enjoy and remember the game.

New feature on Crimson Cabaret is the Evidence Board. It provides overview of all evidence that we found as well as suspect’s profiles. Another new feature that included is the Forensic Kit. Seems like we’re the real detective here.

The graphics in Danse Macabre: Crimson Cabaret are classy, yet so creepy and thrilling. Eipix use bright colors to create stunning visual. This color shade is also decrease the creepy feel that often appears on murder mystery genre. But it’s not something bad, at least for me. Because this color calms me right away after several surprising appearance of masked man.

Am I already said that voice over in Danse Macabre are the best one? The accent, the emotions are flow as they’re real person. I love their voice over works. It’s more professional than any other game. Another thumbs up for Eipix.

The gameplay are more easier than previous game, but it’s still entertaining. The length of game are around 4 hours with 1 hour bonus chapter. The achievement are more easier to get, as well as collectibles. In Extras, we can search souvenir while strolling back to the room that we visited on main game.

Once again, Eipix Entertainment give us spectacular game with thrilling storyline and innovative gameplay. Danse Macabre: Crimson Cabaret can be too fast for some avid HOPA gamer. But of course, it’s one of game you can’t be missed and should be on top list!

Stolen Songbird by Danielle L. Jensen

For five centuries, a witch’s curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realises that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.

Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time…

But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for…

Stolen Songbird

After vampire, werewolves, nephilim and fallen angels, it’s time for troll.

Troll? Did I say it right?

Yes, it’s troll. But not the usual, scary troll. Like the Cullen vampire, these troll has beauty that makes it look so charming, yet still creepy.

The first time I saw the book was on Twitter, when the publisher that translated this book, Fantasious, promoted day by day. I’m curious, so I searched on goodreads. There, I saw lots of people gave positive reviews, mostly talked about Cecile’s personality. I said to myself, ” this book is safe. I should read it,”

And I’m right. The book is well written, the characters are great and the story keep me entertain for the next couple hours.

When I thought the book was safe, it means that the book has no Mary Sue-ism or abusive relationship or anything that will remind me with Bella Swan. And it really is. The book has two different point of view which give us insight of kingdom’s real situation and the reason why Tristan has trust issue towards Cecile.

Also, there’s no insta-love. Like I said before, Tristan has trust issue with human. But once they trust each other, they make alliance. This part get me excited. They then become more busy to prepare plan to save the tyran of Trollus. Because of that, they often miscommunication, mistrust, but that’s how real relationship works. You argue, you apologize and try to fix together.

The setting of story are well explain with lively detail. Surprisingly, the detail doesn’t annoy me as I also learn more about the kingdom’s history. Trollus may look stunning, fantastic but it still a jail for human. It’s underground, and imagine when there’s suddenly earthquake, worst thing can happen anytime.

The side character are great. They’re not just there, watching like dumb people, instead they something you can’t eliminated from story. They’re very helpful, always give clear answer to every question that spread on story. I love when they explain how and why, instead vaguely said, ” You’ll know when the time is right,”

Overall, I love this book. This is something I would read everytime before I sleep. And for my own record, this could be my next inspiration for writing.

{MOVIE} Finding Dory

Dory is a wide-eyed, blue tang fish who suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so. The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child. With help from her friends Nemo and Marlin, Dory embarks on an epic adventure to find them. Her journey brings her to the Marine Life Institute, a conservatory that houses diverse ocean species. Dory now knows that her family reunion will only happen if she can save mom and dad from captivity.

Finding Dory

Watching Finding Dory bring lots of nostalgic memories of Marlin and Dory’s journey in Finding Nemo. In Finding Nemo, we focused on father’s journey to find his son, while in Finding Dory, we focused on daughter’s journey to find her parent and learn the truth behind her past. As the movie goes forward, fragmented dream come into Dory’s mind, then slowly she able to assemble the pieces of her dream.

This time, Dory meet a creature that has similar personality with Marlin. The seven tentacles-octopus named Hank, who longs being inside of glass tank instead of ocean. His chameleon-like ability is one of humor factor in Finding Dory. Hank often annoyed with Dory, but in the end, they work together to go back to their real habitat: ocean. Their chemistry remind us with Marlin and Dory in previous film.

The animation are smoother and sharper than I remember from previous film. The vibrant color makes the whole setting looks beautiful and clear. Which is also remind me the first reason why I fell in love with Finding Nemo at first place. The voice over is expressive, lovely and amazing. The characterization are executed so well, particularly with new character such as Jenny, Charlie, Bailey and Destiny.

Finding Dory giving us the perspective of how marine life looks like. The scene where Dory and Hank trapped in “touch pool” may give us idea about animal’s fear, as well as the scene where Dory and Hank try to drive back to ocean. Finding Dory also decided to not stray too far from previous film,. It may have slight difference, but it still entertaining, funny and loveable which is perfect for young kids.

{GAMES} Nevertales: Legends

You and your husband were on opposite sides of a great war, but your love was strong enough to bring peace to the land. Now he finds himself suffering from a deadly illness, and you must race to find a way to save him. Set out on a grand adventure across the five kingdoms of your realm. But remember to stay on your guard – danger and treachery are hiding around every corner!

Nevertales - Legends

Classic plot, unexpected twist. Nevertales: Legends sets on Taleworld, bring us to a story of two human who ended war with their love. Sounds like happily ever after ending until one day Ash, the king, suffer from illness. Guided by his brother who soon reveal himself as traitor. That’s why I said unexpected twist. Most of twist happen near the ending, but this one is not. Because the twist drive us into the journey to save the whole Taleword.

With highly-interactive storytelling by using mini cutscenes and puzzle, Mad Head once again serve us the beautiful, fascinating story of two kingdom. This also makes Nevertales: Legends different from its predecessors. We’re not switching the world, but we’re exploring the world, which in this case is Taleworld.

For the gameplay, Nevertales: Legends stick into the HOPA’s recent formula, which I felt like the formula become Mad Head’s signature. Awesome visual, high quality animation, beautiful sound track, and great voice over. And don’t forget about mini-games because it’s so fun! The HOS has right amount, adding fun factor into the adventure part.

Nevertales: Legends is fantastic game with creative gameplay, decent story, and high quality graphic. It’s like whole package for HOPA genre. If you had finished the previous three games, this one should not be missed.

{GAMES} Diner Dash 5: BOOM!

A mysterious figure is lurking around Flo’s Diner, removing the word “Fat” from the “Fat-Free Breakfast” banner on the roof using white paint, which makes Flo’s Diner look like it’s having a free breakfast promo. The next day, Flo and Chef Cookie are surprised by the sign, unfortunately it is too late. As soon as they open the diner, customers start running into and overloading the diner, and as a result, Flo’s Diner explodes.

Flo later encounters Mr. Big, who offers to buy her diner. Flo refuses, but Mr. Big blackmails by saying that if the lot is unused in one week, he will buy the diner. One of Flo’s customers, Hal the Hungryman, doesn’t want to let Mr. Big buy Flo’s Diner, and has agreed to rebuild the diner. Flo and Cookie proceed to get a hold of Hal’s employees who have been scattered across Dinertown (Avenue Flo, Squid Row, Thyme Square, and Dinertown University).

Diner Dash 5 - BOOM

It’s been long time since I played Diner Dash: Flo On The Go few years ago. I still remember the gameplay, the story and the graphic. Diner Dash franchise was introduced me into time management. I learned a lot from the game and won’t stop play it until I got scolded by Mom. I’m no longer play another time management game since 2009 until 2012.

When I found this game, I was so excited. And I become more excited when I saw the gameplay. It’s very different from the first three Diner Dash game. In Diner Dash: BOOM, you will play at 5 different venues, each venue contains 10 levels. At venue, you will given several challenges such as earthquake, rain etc. These type of challenge can be avoided by purchase the upgrade.

Another interesting feature from Diner Dash: BOOM! is we can purchase upgrades that can be bought using the money earned in the previous shift. Some upgrades are permanent (example: faster chef, faster shoes, and disaster protection), but some are just for one level and are more expensive than other upgrades (example: podium helper, salad bar helper, and extra hands). We also can customize both diner and venue. The venue can be customized at several level, while the diner can be customized after we unlock the object by finishing levels.

There’s also several new customer in Diner Dash 5: BOOM! like Townies, Lawyer, Librarian and Clown. It’s really fun seeing Librarian try keeping other customer while Lawyer will start arguing if we seat them next to another Lawyer. And Clown will juggling if we don’t serve them quickly.

I believe this is second time PlayFirst include voice over into the game. It’s very great, flawless. I love it. But it doesn’t mean the whole game is flawless. The snack machine is first problem. You have to serve to customer as fast as possible before the request disappear. It sucks, you know. You never know when your hands get slip during the game.

But overall, I love Diner Dash: BOOM! They offer something different from previous game, and they able keep me on my seat for next few hours. That’s impressive, at least for me.

Well, if you big fan of Diner Dash, you may want to try this one. Or if you never play Diner Dash, why not give it try?

{MOVIE} Now You See Me 2

After fleeing from a stage show, the illusionists known as the Four Horsemen find themselves in more trouble in Macau, China. Devious tech wizard Walter Mabry forces the infamous magicians to steal a powerful chip that can control all of the world’s computers. Meanwhile, vengeful FBI agent Dylan Rhodes hatches his own plot against Thaddeus Bradley, the man he blames for the death of his father.

I have two reason why I watch this movie:

1) I wanna see Jesse Eisenberg after Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, to prove that I was wrong about his acting skill

2) I wanna see Daniel Radcliffe. The last time I saw his performance was when he was in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2

For first reason, maybe because the only film I ever saw Jeese before Dawn of Justice was Now You See Me. While for second reason, I wanna see how Daniel play role as antagonist because I only saw him as Harry Potter. Yep, I admit I never watch his other film because I’m too scared (re: Woman In Black).

This film may not be the best film with ordinary story plot and excessive CGI, but the actor’s performance are save it. Especially with new member, Lula May, which I consider as annoying but as the movie goes forward, I love her. She talks too much in her first meeting with Atlas. But later this girl show her skills. My favorite moment is when she and Wilder talk about Wilder’s relationship. Wilder seems forgot that the girl he deal with is skilled magician.

Another briliant performance are come from Woody Harrelson who play two character, as Merrit and as Chase. I found these character were played so well. Merrit become so quiet in front of Chase, like they are polar opposite, but Chase is more crazy than Merrit. I love Woody’s performance on how he portrayed two different people.  He’s very talented.

Now You See Me 2 is witty, funny but lack of originalty from plot aspect. There’s two thing that save this movie: actor and the beautiful magic finale performance. Yes, the ending was epic. I know they have plan but I didn’t expect it would be something big like that. I was impressed.

Just like Lula said, ” Who did you think you were dealing with?”
